Gyotaku
Gyotaku (Japanese, from gyo "fish" + taku "rubbing") is a traditional form of Japanese fish printing, dating from the mid-19th century, a form of nature printing used by fishermen to record their catches.
The direct approach is the best way to do gyotaku. In order to make a gyotaku print, one places the fish on a wooden bench and paints one side of the fish. The paper is applied to the fish and an image is transferred. The painting is then detailed by hand.
Gyotaku is also practiced as a form of art.

We also scored a great deal on this Fleshing machine and table locally from another taxidermist that couldn't figure it out.
With a little practice this should greatly improve our fleshing/thinning time...we are currently doing it "old school". I rough flesh with a sharpened machete, and finish with sharp knives and razors.

Had to stop doing fish to work on this guy...Boars are a greasy mess... I need to price myself out of the market on these. A few a year is all I could stand. We are currently experimenting with our own tanning, we have done a couple of deer already, and the boar has been in the tan for a few days now. So far I prefer this wet tanning to the dry tan capes we were getting from the tannery.
He'll be ready to mount tomorrow.
BTW My Girl ROCKS!!!
All the meat and shield had to come off of this cape. It is a lot like hand planing wood of an old chunk of oak. Needless to say I supplied the elbow grease for that job.
Here it is all cleaned up and ready for salting and tanning.
